BOOSTING PERFORMANCE TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS

The Edmonton Oilers’ farm team, was talented, but had a young core. Their experienced and competitive coaching staff had introduced approaches to build the team’s rhythm and highlight individual strengths, but the head coach was looking for new ways to accelerate player development.

Piiva began working with the team 18 games into the season. Players participated in the five-week program, and a customized eight-week extension. Increases in individual and team performance could be seen in just the third week, with the team making it to the second round of the playoffs at the end of the season.

Participation and completion rates of the program were high, as players could see and feel its benefits quickly. Players reported increases in play recognition, reaction time, and accuracy in passing and shooting. For the coaching staff, this increased level of play allowed for the team to deploy new line and game strategies throughout the season.
