Concordia Stingers - Case Study
Improving team play and defensive focus
The Concordia University Stingers basketball team had a new group of players that were learning each other’s style. With a 2-11 start to the season, frustration was beginning to show in the team’s performance. Despite the coaching staff’s intensified competitive strategies, losses continued due to missed executions and lapses in concentration.
After beginning Piiva, the Stingers quickly saw results. In addition to the five-week program, their head coach implemented meditation and visualization techniques into parts of their regular team practices and pre-game routine. Biofeedback was also introduced to elevate players’ awareness. By practicing these techniques, the Stingers managed to turn their season around, and finished the final games 10-7. Team chemistry and focus were the foundation of each game as they worked as a cohesive unit.
The players showed increases in defensive focus and game energy, as well as accuracy in passing and shooting. As student-athletes, players also reported improvements in their studying efficiency and overall grades.
